Smashed Guitars and Other Damage - recenzja w NYT
"“Who I Am” is an earnest, tortured, searching book — by turns eloquent and long-winded, revealing and oddly elliptical. In it Mr. Townshend, the guitarist and songwriter for the Who, gives an account of his life as intimate and as painful as a therapy session, while chronicling the history of the band as it took shape in the Mod scene in 1960s London and became the very embodiment of adolescent rebellion and loud, anarchic rock ’n’ roll."

After publishing a 5-comic serialization of Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED, DC Comics will then publish the comics together as a hardcover graphic novel (a compilation of the series) in June 2013.
As many of you know well, Quentin completely immerses himself in the worlds he creates for all of his movies. A character that may only appear for a few minutes on screen has already been fully fleshed out by Quentin when he writes his screenplays. For every character, no matter how minor the role in the final film, Quentin has created a whole universe, a full and complete history of each character—from birth to death. This graphic novel will contain many elements, story lines, etc that will NOT appear in the movie. This should not be considered a straightforward movie tie-in – in fact the graphic novel publishes several months after the movie is released in the US.
This will be an amazing blend of the mad genius of Quentin and the artistry of talented Serbian comic book illustrator R.M. Guéra (http://www.rmguera.com/), known for his work on the Vertigo series Scalped.
The movie Django Unchained, written and directed by Academy Award-winner Quentin Tarantino, stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Shultz, Academy Award-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin Candie, Kerry Washington, and Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson. The film will be released internationally by Sony Pictures.

Imprint Johnny'ego Deppa w Harper Collins wyda wspomnienia Boba Dylana!
Autorem książki, pisanej we współpracy z legendarnym muzykiem, będzie Douglas Brinkley.
Z artykułu w ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE:
"We will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples' time, of peoples' concern, publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet," Depp said of the imprint, which will share a name with his production company, Infinitum Nihil (which means "nothing is forever"). "For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together."
HarperCollins said that Depp will look for "authentic, outspoken and visionary ideas and voices."
For his part, Brinkley – who profiled Dylan in 2009 for Rolling Stone – said he thinks the Dylan book is "the ideal way" to kick off the new publishing imprint. The book, which looks to tell the complete tale of Dylan's life and career based in part on interviews with Brinkley, is scheduled to hit shelves in 2015.
"Bob has been very warm and forthcoming with us," Brinkley said. "His music has inspired us both deeply since we were teenagers."

Książka Youssefa Ziedana AZAZEEL została nagrodzona przez czytelników, goszczącycych na Festiwalu Książki w Edynburgu!
Youssef Ziedan’s novel Azazeel is the winner of this year’s Anobii First Book Award. Now in its third year, the award celebrates the wealth of new writing in the Edinburgh International Book Festival programme by giving audiences and readers the chance to discover debut writers and vote for their favourite to win.
This year there were 46 titles eligible for the award, each one a novel, novella or short story collection from a debut writer or a first work published in English.
The winner was chosen by votes placed online and via the ballot box in Charlotte Square Gardens during the Book Festival. Almost 3000 votes were received in total, from over 50 countries, and nearly 20% were for Azazeel, making it the clear winner.
Set in the 5th century AD, Azazeel is an exquisitely crafted story following Hypa, a Coptic monk, on his journey from Upper Egypt to Alexandria and then Syria during a time of massive upheaval in the early Church. It explores a magnificent array of ideas about religion, spirituality and humanity which cleverly comment on our contemporary world. Many readers who voted for the book described it as being ‘amazing’ and ‘the best book I’ve ever read’.
Azazeel won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2009 and is the first of Ziedan’s novels to be published in English, and the first translation to win the Anobii First Book Award.
Edinburgh International Book Festival Director, Nick Barley, said ‘I am particularly pleased that an international author has won this year – Youssef Ziedan’s Azazeel has been a major talking point in Egypt, and now it has become a worthy winner of this international literary award.’
A spokesperson from Atlantic Books, who publish Azazeel in the UK, said ‘We’re thrilled that so many readers voted for Azazeel, the first of Youssef Ziedan’s novels to be published in the UK, to win the Anobii First Book Award. Following on from his fantastic event at the Book Festival this August, this is more great news from Edinburgh.’
In "The Optimism Bias", Dr Tali Sharot uncovers myths about optimism and illuminates the multitudinous ways it can affect our lives.
Dr Sharot uses science and historical and contemporary figures as well as people’s everyday experiences to examine the way in which optimism is necessary for us to function. She also illustrates how the human brain is extremely adept at turning lead into gold, at enabling us to face the most difficult of situations. "The Optimism Bias", as an exploration of the human mind and its capability, has the unusual quality of being both an informative and very enjoyable read.
