The Casanova Syndrome - Wiik Øystein
Tom Hartmann’s ex-wife Cathrine Price is due to get married, but is jilted at the alter by the groom, Peter Werring, who flees to Venice where he is cast into an existential crisis. By coincidence he encounters the ageing womaniser Bruno Cessarini, and this acquaintance draws Peter into a dark world where the erotic and the art of seduction are the dominating forces. It is shortly afterwards revealed that the erotic elements function merely as a front for some very different kinds of acts - criminal acts. Cathrine asks Tom to help her find Peter. He follows the traces left by Peter and discovers that several of the women Peter has had relationships with, have subsequently died of a mysterious syndrome. Has Peter turned into a sex murderer? And is he himself aware of the fact that he is a carrier of the Casanova Syndrome?
Praise for The Casanova Syndrome:
"Øystein Wiik writes astonishingly well."
Aftenposten
“Anyone fancy a wild sleigh ride including culinary happenings and copious amounts of wine and opera? Hop on!”
Ingvar Ambjørnsen, VG
“Not many other Norwegian writers seem to enjoy themselves quite as much as Øystein Wiik does. Not letting himself be constrained by the limiting parameters of reality, he pitches his characters into the most intricate adventures in settings taken right out of a James Bond movie”
